Hello GCC Members & riders,

**UPDATE**

We are getting closer & closer to getting 5k and lower Schacher trails cleared of the all blowdown although it may not be in time for some fall riding. Lot’s of behind the scene work is getting done to make it all happen. It’s messy business up there with trees tangled and all hung up together, yet plans are in action.

5k down:

BC Timber Sales has an obligation to cleanup damaged timber in this area for timber management purposes and to avoid or reduce a Douglas-fir beetle infestation which usually happens after a blowdown event. They will be clearing around a 1k section from the top of 5k down. There is going to be no buffer along the trail, so yes it will feel open and free in there. Loss of the wind barriers from the blowdown would likely mean that if any trees were left standing, they would likely blow down on the trail in the future.

The fire crew is volunteering a day before the end of Sept to help clear. They will be heading into the section below the BCTS block to Wet dream. Thanks Team!

The next section to tackle is below 3k and it gets messy again. This section of trail runs though the Mtn Shadows woodlot. We are working hard and getting permission from the woodlot licensee to look after all the blowdown. We will inform folks ASAP when we get the go ahead.

LLower Schacher Trail

BC Timber Sales also has 2 blocks marked off for clearing along Schacher. If you have been up there you will see signs saying “NO CUT TREES” and flagging for the blocks. We are still waiting to hear when they will be starting these projects. Fingers Crossed it will happen this fall. Again we will update when we get word.

As for the sections of blowdown on private land, any clearing that happens PLEASE leave the wood for the owner to take as fire wood. Just a reminder, it’s a tangled mess of tensioned trees out there. Make sure it’s in your cutting ability.

A GoFunding Page has been created to help get our trails back open. Keep your eyes open for that, it’s coming soon.

During the windstorm of July 2017, hundreds of trees blew down across the biking and hiking trails on Mount 7 in Golden, BC. There is a horizontal forest obliterating long sections of trails, including The Schacher and 5K. A number of efforts are being made to fund the removal of the trees by professionals (it is a highly complex and dangerous task, and we plead with everyone to not attempt to cut any of this merchantable timber). This is one such effort, in which we are asking you to contribute money so that we can quickly reopen this tremendous biking zone for all to enjoy. All money raised will go towards clearing the trails or rebuilding the trails.
Biking: not all your money should go just into your bike.

On a positive note, having these trails closed for the summer, they did’t get blown out and totally destroyed by a summer of no rain.

Reg MullettThanks for the update. Once the go fund me is setup please forward myself the link and we will share it on the Moose Mountain Bike Trail Society (MMBTS) channels as our ridership has reaped the Mt 7 stoke for years.
